I am a software developer and hardware engineer. I mainly work with HTML, CSS, JS, Bootstrap, C++/C, Python and Java.
Hi! My name is Brandon Fong, and I am a Mechatronics Engineering student currently studying at the University of Waterloo. My interests lie in embedded systems, hardware hacks and full stack software development.
Despite being born and raised in Canada, I have had the opportunity to work with people of similar interests all over the world, enhancing my appreciation of the diversity and multiculturalism that this world has to offer.
More recently, while working as a Mechanical Design Intern at SM Research Inc. (Funglyn Biotech Inc.), I developed a fascination towards hardware design and software development. My exposure to developing a working qPCR prototype from scratch is the reason I believe that interfacing hardware with software and making a user-friendly final product are the keys to success as an innovation developer. In some of my side projects, I have programmed Arduinos to communicate with accelerometers, Myo armbands and VR headsets to detect and model movement algorithms for biomedical situations.
Outside of work, I am a chess player who competes on the national level and I've taken part in the Canadian University Chess Championships. I also play basketball and tennis and enjoy hiking, camping and snowboarding regularly. I am also a piano performer and I completed my Grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music exams with First Class Honours.
